About Me

I am currently Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Philosophy of Law, Department of Law, University of Catania, Italy.

I earned a Degree in Economics and Commerce, a PhD in Philosophy of Law at the University of Padua, the National Habilitation for both Associate and Full Professor in Philosophy of Law, as well as Associate Professor in History of Economic Thought. I have taught in several Universities in Italy and abroad, including: Turin, Cornell, Bocconi, LUISS, Lyon2, Science Po Grenoble.

My research explores issues at the intersection of philosophy of law and economic philosophy, with a specific focus on: commutative and distributive justice in tax justice; forms of contractarianism and forms of justice, reciprocity and gift in the idea of fiscal contract; fiscal subsidiarity institutions; Institutional Economics, gift and forms of institutionalized solidarity; ethics, economics and market regulation; value judgments and normativity in Economics and Law & Economics; Economics and Humanities; law and freedom in liberal thought; the reflection on good government and the types of state in the Italian Tradition of Public Finance.

I held Visiting positions at: Cornell University as “Luigi Einaudi” Chair Holder (2011), Mario Einaudi Center (2014), Cornell Law School (USA – 2015); Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Freiburg (Germany – 2015); Department of Government, LSE (UK – 2015); Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Freiburg as Marie Curie Fellow of the European Union and Guest Professor (Germany – 2017-18); Triangle UMR 5206 – CNRS/ENS de Lyon, Université Lumière Lyon 2 (France – 2020, 2021, 2022), University Science Po, Grenoble (France – 2022), F. A. Hayek Program for Advanced Study in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, Mercatus Center, George Mason University (USA – 2022).

From 2012 to 2018 I was also Coordinator of the Cornell-in-Turin Study Abroad Programme (Cornell University, USA), where I also taught Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) modules.

Among my honours and prizes: the STOREP grant Award 2016 for the research project “Theories of tax justice: between exchange and gift”; the Marie Curie Fellowship for the research project “Anthropology of Taxation. Enquiry into the Human Foundations of Fiscal Democracy” and the Honorary “Fair Inheritance” Fellowship (Research project “Fair inheritance”), Chaire Hoover d’éthique économique et sociale, Université catholique de Louvain.

I am member of the Editorial Boards of several journals and editorial series, and member of the scientific committee of the “National Edition of the Works of Luigi Einaudi”.
